Cinnamon is a popular household spice and baking staple – picture those delicious cinnamon rolls, yum. However, it’s not only good at wowing our taste buds. Cinnamon, especially Ceylon cinnamon, can do a lot more for our bodies. Keep on reading and you just might know what ;)

WHERE DOES CINNAMON COME FROM

These spicy sticks of flavor are harvested from the inner bark of different species of the Cinnamonum family. This bark is dried and ground into powder while smaller pieces are left as the cinnamon scrolls we’re familiar with.

Packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients, it’s no wonder the health benefits of cinnamon are staggering.

BENEFITS OF CINNAMON TO YOUR BODY

When taken in moderate quantities, cinnamon has a myriad of qualities which may help to maintain optimal health. They include:

  • Healing Fungal and Bacterial Infections

Cinnamon oil extract contains cinnamaldehyde which has serious antibacterial and antifungal qualities that may help fight various types of infections, especially fungal respiratory tract infections and acne-causing bacteria.

  • Regulating Blood Sugar

Cinnamon can lower blood-sugar level by reducing the amount of glucose absorbed by the body and mimicking the functions of insulin. Of course, this may potentially prevent Type 2 diabetes.

  • Reducing the Risk of Cancer

Research suggests that cinnamon may be able to prevent the spread of cancerous cells by triggering the production of detoxifying enzymes.

  • Preventing Tooth Decay and Bad Breath

Cinnamon’s antimicrobial properties can also act on bacteria that cause tooth decay whilst giving you the freshest breath.

  • Reducing Inflammation

Cinnamaldehyde enhances blood circulation which can be very helpful when trying to ease swelling.

There are two main kinds of cinnamon though,

  1. Cassia Cinnamon also known as Chinese cinnamon.
  2. Ceylon Cinnamon which is harvested in Sri Lanka.

Both are healthy and will provide the same protection as each other, but Ceylon cinnamon is seen as the true cinnamon and superior to the Cassia Cinnamon. Here’s why,

WHY YOU SOULD CHOOSE CEYLON CINNAMON

Cassia cinnamon, although edible, contains high levels of a toxin called coumarin – a blood thinner – that may cause harm to the liver if ingested regularly. Ceylon has a much lower concentration of coumarin, which makes it healthier when taken in large quantities and hence much more expensive.

Ceylon Cinnamon sticks are usually thinner and more multi-layered than Cassia Cinnamon sticks with a less bitter taste. Other benefits of Ceylon Cinnamon are:

  • The presence of proanthocyanadins which help to strengthen capillaries and protect against heart diseases.
  • Its ability to safeguard neurons and potentially prevent neurodegenerative diseases
  • Its potential in drastically lowering cholesterol levels.

As a rule, you are not meant to be taking large quantities of cinnamon. In fact, one teaspoon of cassia cinnamon might be too much! Small to moderate quantities are recommended. And because your health is our priority, we only offer the best of pure and organic Ceylon cinnamon. Do get yours now!
